Synaptic Connections was created to educate the public about the nature of neuropsychiatric and psychological disorders, and the availability of brain-based treatments such as psychotherapy, nutritional therapy, neurotransmitter balancing, immune regulation, detoxification, and neurofeedback.   Putting education into practice, Synaptic Connections conducts and employs evidence-based research to evaluate the effectiveness of cutting edge diagnostic and treatment technology, and ultimately works toward making these treatments affordable to a wide cross section of the population.

The mission of Synaptic Connections is three-fold.

  • Research

Providing the professional healthcare community and the wider public with evidence-based research to support the effectiveness of brain-based therapies is one of our main objectives.  Various diagnostic tools and methods of treatment also deserve objective evaluation, and the eventual establishment of industry standards is crucial to making brain-based treatments readily available and affordable.  To accomplish this we seek to conduct research as an unbiased third party in the cognitive therapeutic community, inviting doctors and practitioners to submit their treatment models for testing.  The results of our grant-funded research will be made available to the wider professional healthcare community as practitioners consider the best options for treatment their patients suffering from neuropsychological and neuropsychiatric disorders.

  • Education

The visibility of brain-based treatments is limited to individual practitioners’ ability to advertise.  As a non-profit, Synaptic Connections is in a unique position to increase public awareness of cognitive and bio-psycho-social therapies by educating a wide audience about brain science, the nature of neuropsychological and neuropsychiatric disorders, the brain’s rehabilitative potential, and the therapies which activate and facilitate this potential.   To accomplish this, Synaptic Connections hosts fundraisers, community meetings and information sessions for interested participants in addition to circulating written and web-based material.

  • Treatment

The foundations of research and education culminate in the penultimate goal to make brain-based treatment for neuropsychological and neuropsychiatric disorders available to all who suffer from these debilitating problems, regardless of income or circumstance.  Mental illness affects 50 million Americans, many of whom are uninsured, live below the poverty line, are indigent, homeless, or otherwise unable to procure diagnosis, much less treatment.  In reaching out to the professional healthcare community through research, and the public through education, Synaptic Connections seeks to form a coalition of interested and aware parties who are able and willing to reach out to this suffering population marred by disabilities which are beyond the reach of traditional mental health care services to effectively address.   Through grants and access to effective therapies, Synaptic Connections will accumulate the resources to provide treatment to individuals.
